- GMIS Outcome document heralds new initiatives on digital transformation
Since 2017, the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS) has gathered policymakers, private sector leaders and academic experts to catalyze action, partnerships and networking concerning the future of manufacturing. UNIDO is a Co-Chair of GMIS, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates.
- UNIDO Global Call 2022
Initially launched in 2020 by the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) Italy in Rome, the UNIDO Global Call is a flagship event, which seeks to identify innovative technology solutions that address the adverse effects of climate change and that have the potential to be scaled up, and thus that ultimately contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic development.
- UNIDO and ENI support sustainable entrepreneurship in Iraq
UNIDO has successfully completed at the beginning of July 2022 the first phase of a flagship initiative “Sustainable Agro-Energy in Iraq – #IPI Call for innovative entrepreneurship” organized in collaboration with ENI Iraq B.V. and ENI Joule with the support of LVenture Group within the framework of the project “Investment Promotion for Iraq — Phase II”, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.
- UNIDO informs member states on hydrogen-related opportunities
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) provided its Member States with an online introduction to the different types of colour-based hydrogen (for example green and blue) together with a classification that quantifies the hydrogen’s CO2 content or carbon footprint.

- Eurachem Scientific Workshop on Quality Assurance of Measurements
UNIDO, through its Global Quality and Standards Programme (GQSP), supported the Georgian Laboratory Association (GeLab) to organize an online scientific workshop on Quality Assurance of Measurements from Field to Laboratory with Focus on ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Requirements on 16-18 May 2022, in connection with the Eurachem General Assembly 2022.
- Launch of toolkit on digital transformation for people-oriented cities and communities
A new Toolkit on digital transformation for people-oriented cities and communities was developed and launched by UNIDO and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in close collaboration with other UN bodies and cities.
- UNIDO supports the 4IR technologies in Iran
A new platform for broadcasting Iranian cultural and sports events in the form of virtual reality (VR), „Didaro“, was unveiled on 9 March 2022. Participants of the launching event, including public sector officials and artists, were able to see the „Zhepto“ theater live on their VR glasses. The platform was developed by the National Foundation for Digital Content Entrepreneurship and with the support of the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare (MCLSW), and UNIDO, which have implemented the Business Development and Sustainable Job Creation Project (BDSJCP), jointly.
