- PCB project won's EcoWorld-2021 award
The project, implemented by the UNIDO Center for International Industrial Cooperation in the Russian Federation, received a diploma from a prestigious environmental competition. The UNIDO / GEF project “Environmentally sound regulation and final destruction of PCBs at the enterprises of Russian Railways and other owners” was awarded in the EcoWorld-2021 International Competition, held by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
- Environmental experts discuss critical issues in the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on POPs
On April 6, 2021, a round table was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation “Fulfillment of the international obligations of the Russian Federation on the implementation of the provisions of the Stockholm Convention by 2025, in particular on the inventory and elimination of accumulated environmental damage of substances of the 1st hazard class, especially hazardous to human health, and namely, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) contained in electrical equipment ”.

On December 13, 2019, the annual Steering Committee of the UNIDO / GEF project “Environmentally sound “Environmentally sound management and final disposal of PCBs at the Russian Railroad Network and other PCBs owners” (hereinafter UNIDO-RZD project) was held at the Center for Scientific and Technical Information of Russian Railways.

On October 24-26, 2018, the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference „Technosphere and Environmental Safety in Transport“ (TEBTRANS-2018) was held in the framework of International engineering forum at Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University. The Director of the UNIDO Center for International Industrial Cooperation in the Russian Federation Sergey Korotkov participated the Conference.
- Global Lubricants Week 2018: focus on waste oils management
Issues of environmentally safe management of used lubricants, as well as transformer oils contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), were discussed during the Global Lubricants Week, held in Moscow from 9 to 12 October 2018.
- Visit of the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) delegation
On October 15, experts from the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) visited Moscow. The agenda included visit to the production site of the UNIDO / GEF / Russian Railroads JSC project “Environmentally Sound Management and Final Disposal of PCBs at Russian Railroads network and Other PCBs Owners”, as well as negotiations on joining the UNIDO and NEFCO efforts regarding implementation of the Stockholm Convention on POPs in the Russian Federation.
- UNIDO training "Legal and practical aspects of PCBs environmentally sound management in Russia and abroad" has been successfully conducted
From 16 to 20 April 2018 the UNIDO CIIC in Russia conducted a 5-day training „Legal and practical aspects of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) environmentally sound management in Russia and abroad“. The event was supported by the Russian National Coordination Center for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and the Regional Center for the Stockholm Convention on POPs (RECETOX, Czech Republic, Brno).

- Russian Implementation Plan for the Stockholm Convention on POPs has been approved
In October, the National Implementation Plan of the Russian Federation obligations in the framework of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants was approved.
- UNIDO took part in the extended meeting of JSC «Russian Railways» on environmental issues
On October 17, 2017, the UNIDO/GEF project „Environmentally sound management and final disposal of PCBs at the Russian Railroad network and other PCBs owners“ consultants took part in the extended meeting of JSC «Russian Railways» on environmental issues on the basis of the Scientific Production Center for Environmental Protection — a branch of JSC «Russian Railways» under the supervision of Valentin Gapanovich, Senior Adviser to the President of JSC «Russian Railways» on environmental issues. The meeting was also attended by the leadership of the Northern Railway, the head of the Federal Service for Supervision in the field of nature management in the Yaroslavl region Shalaev V.
