- UNIDO Centre in the Russian Federation supported the delegation from Turkmenistan, which arrived to work within the framework of UNIDO project on the Montreal Protocol
Turkmenistan is actively working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. In 2020, the country acceded to the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. The amendment provides for a phased reduction in the consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) — synthetic greenhouse gases with a very high global warming potential (GWP). HFCs are used in many areas of economic activity, including refrigeration equipment and air conditioning systems.

On the 3d of March 2011 presentation of the GEF/UNIDO Project “Phase-out reduction of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) consumption and the encouragement of transition to hydrofluorocarbons-free energy efficient refrigeration and air conditioning equipment through technology transfer in the Russian Federation” was held in Expocentre. The project is implemented jointly with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Enviroment and the Global Environmental Facility.
