Conference «GEF/UNIDO Project»
April 11, 2011
On the 3d of March 2011 presentation of the GEF/UNIDO Project “Phase-out reduction of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) consumption and the encouragement of transition to hydrofluorocarbons-free energy efficient refrigeration and air conditioning equipment through technology transfer in the Russian Federation” was held in Expocentre. The project is implemented jointly with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Enviroment and the Global Environmental Facility.
The main objective of the project is a direct derivation of HCFCs consumption in the amount of 600 tons of ozone-depleting potential (ODP) from the sectors of foam and refrigeration equipment to achieve the target set for the Russian Federation by the Montreal Protocol by 2015.
Since HCFCs are potent greenhouse gases, it will simultaneously reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 15.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
The second objective of the project is the transfer of innovative technologies in the modernization of industrial enterprises producing foam insulation, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 10 million tons within 5 years by reducing energy consumption.
Among the conference speakers were Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Maidanov I.I., Director of the UNIDO Center for International Industrial Cooperation in the Russian Federation Korotkov S.A., Project Manager Sorokin Y.A., Development Director Daikin Europe NV Stefan Verstappen, Directorate Adviser of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Ecology”, UNIDO consultant Tselikov V.N., professor of St. Petersburg State University of Refrigeration and Food Technologies Tsvetkov O.B., Chief Engineer of the plant Sergo Dragunskih I.V., executive director of APIC, board member of the NP “ISZS-Montaj” Kuzin D.L., General Director of NP “ISZS-Project” Galusha A.N., National Project Coordinator Lyubeshkin A.E., National Expert of the Project Kushnerev A.V., UNIDO expert Shatravka Victor.
The conference was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, UNIDO, the state corporation “Russian Technologies”, the Association of Climate Industry, domestic and foreign companies refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning systems, cryogenic equipment manufacturers fluoropolymer products, organizations of chemical profile.
