October 09, 2021

From 5 to 8 October 2021, the X Anniversary St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (SPIGF-2021) was held in St. Petersburg.

The SPIGF is the largest event in the gas industry, in which representatives of oil and gas companies, innovation centers, specialized universities and research institutes take part annually to discuss global trends and government policy in the gas industry, as well as priority industry projects.

Representatives of the UNIDO Centre in the Russian Federation (CIIC) took part in the session “Technological progress and the future of the hydrocarbon economy” with a report on the topic “The role of UNIDO in the transition to sustainable development: green innovation and energy efficiency”.

One of the important directions in the transition to green energy UNIDO considers the development of hydrogen energy. In this regard, UNIDO launched a global program to promote the use of green hydrogen in industry in developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

The participants also expressed the opinion that Russia could take steps towards solar and lithium batteries production as well as wind energy market development and nickel mining, provided that it makes timely investments in these areas.

All session participants, however, agreed with the opinion that the problem of reducing CO2 emissions cannot be solved without active international cooperation.

The Forum’s exposition was attended by 370 companies from different countries. The exhibition covered all areas of the oil and gas industry — from production to consumption, including the use of the capabilities of supercomputers and neural networks in the development of the gas industry.
