UNIDO Centre took part in the XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress

On May 22–23, the XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress was held in St. Petersburg at the Tauride Palace. The Congress brought together representatives of government, science, business and international organizations to discuss current issues of environmental protection and sustainable development. The Congress was organized with the support of the Federation Council, the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, and Roscongress, and once again became a key platform for discussing global environmental challenges.

The event was held under the motto “Planet Earth: Harmony of Man and Nature” and became a landmark event in the field of international environmental cooperation. Delegations from 76 countries and 17 international organizations, including UNIDO, took part in the Congress.

Director of the UNIDO Centre Igor Kozhin, on behalf of UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller, took part in the Congress and attended a number of thematic sessions, including:

  • Sustainable Development in the Context of Climate Change
  • Circular Economy and Green Technologies: Challenges and Solutions
  • Eco-friendly Urbanism and Green Architecture of the Future
  • Education for Sustainable Development: Ecology as the Foundation of the Future

The key moment of the forum was the plenary session, which discussed global environmental challenges, the climate agenda, the transition to a low-carbon economy and the tasks of international cooperation in the field of sustainable development. Environmental issues occupy a key place in UNIDO’s strategy, and sustainable development is not only an international goal, but also a practical necessity.

Following the results of the Congress, a resolution was adopted containing proposals for improving environmental policy, developing legislative mechanisms in the field of environmental protection and introducing sustainable economic models.

The UNIDO Centre’s participation in this forum was part of a global strategy to strengthen environmental sustainability and implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
