April 21, 2026

On April 14–15, Moscow hosted the large-scale “Ecology” Forum, bringing together representatives of government authorities, international organizations, businesses, the scientific and expert community, as well as civil society organizations. The event served as a key platform for discussing pressing issues related to sustainable development, environmental policy, and the implementation of green technologies.
The Forum demonstrated a high level of representation and a broad geographical reach. Among the speakers and participants were leading environmental experts, representatives of профиль ministries and agencies, major industrial companies, and international organizations. The business program included plenary sessions, thematic discussions, and panel sessions covering a wide range of topics—from climate agenda and waste management to the development of a circular economy.
The UNIDO Centre in the Russian Federation took an active part in the Forum. Representatives of the Centre attended key events of the program, including the plenary session, as well as a number of specialized sessions focused on sustainable industrial development and environmental innovation.
Particular interest was drawn to the session “Ecocentric Society: How Society Influences the Environmental Agenda.” During the session, participants discussed the transformation of public perception of environmental issues and the growing role of citizens in shaping demand for sustainable solutions. Speakers noted that public initiatives, environmental education, and changes in everyday behavior are becoming key drivers of green transformation.
Special attention was given to the interaction between government, business, and society. Participants emphasized the importance of developing feedback mechanisms with the public, supporting environmental NGOs, and implementing educational programs aimed at fostering environmental awareness from an early age. Examples of successful practices were shared, including citizen engagement in waste separation initiatives, carbon footprint reduction efforts, and the development of local environmental projects.
The discussion also highlighted the role of digital technologies and media in promoting the environmental agenda. Experts noted that social media and digital platforms are becoming effective tools for disseminating environmental knowledge and engaging a wide audience in sustainable practices.
Participation in the “Ecology” Forum enabled the UNIDO Centre to strengthen professional ties, exchange experience with partners, and identify promising areas for further cooperation in sustainable development and the environmental transformation of industry.
The UNIDO Centre will continue its active work in promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development, supporting initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact and advancing the green economy in the Russian Federation.
