Managing innovation: online training available now

UNIDO is pleased to announce its Innovation Management online training is now available on the UNIDO Knowledge Hub. The launching event featured the participation of Bernardo Calzadilla Sarmiento, Managing Director of the UNIDO’s Directorate of Digitalization, Technology and Agro-Business, Nesreen Al-Khammash, Programme Manager at the International Standardization Organization (ISO), as well as Leopoldo Colombo and Joanne Hyland, renowned experts on Innovation Management Systems.

The training, developed in partnership with the ISO, aims to support individuals working on innovation activities within an organization, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Innovation is integral to a country’s performance as a key driver of economic transformation, and for developing countries, in particular, unleashing their innovation potential can facilitate their transition to the digital economy.

“The innovation capabilities of an organization include the ability to understand and respond to changing conditions of its context, to pursue new opportunities, and to leverage the knowledge and creativity of people within the organization, and in collaboration with external interested parties. An organization can innovate more effectively and efficiently if all necessary activities and other interrelated or interacting elements are managed as a system.” (ISO 56002:2019 Innovation Management System – Guidance)

Comprised of seven modules, the training introduces innovation management principles and presents those working in the area of innovation with the ISO 56002:2019 Innovation Management System – Guidance standard as a guiding tool to design, implement, maintain and continuously improve an innovation management system. The training also serves to improve the performance and effectiveness of any innovation project, and outlines principles of a sustainable innovation management system and the actions that can be taken to deploy them throughout an organization.
