First Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit in Abu Dhabi, UAE

The first Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) will take place on March 27-30, 2017, in the city of Abu Dhabi, UAE. The first edition of GMIS will be hosted by the UAE Ministry of Economy and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) in collaboration with the Global Agenda Council on the Future of Manufacturing of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The Summit will act as a unique discussion forum uniting the key manufacturing actors and industry experts with the aim to debate about new global challenges faced by the manufacturing sector and provide long-term innovative solutions. GMIS will gather together over 1200 delegates representing international business, world governments and civil society. The main goal of the Summit will be to launch a cross-sectoral dialogue and facilitate international industrial cooperation, transform manufacturing in line with the new challenges, foster innovation and skills development.

The rich programme of GMIS includes a number of conferences, panel discussions, presentations and interviews with the leading industry experts. In addition, alongside the Summit an exhibition “The Manufacturing Expo”, showcasing industrial technologies and innovations of the participating countries, and a business matchmaking platform “The Global Value Chain Market” will take place.

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, the Summit is part of the global initiative to promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and is planned to become an annual event. As Mr Li Yong, Director General of UNIDO, notes, today all actors of the manufacturing sector need to join their efforts to build a resilient manufacturing infrastructure fostering innovations and develop a global strategy of industrial development. The Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit will become one of the first steps towards achieving this goal.
