COP under the Governor of CHO on environmental questions

On December 17, Mr. Alexey Teksler, the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region, held a meeting of the Coordinating Council for Environmental Issues.

The event was attended by representatives of regional and federal executive authorities (Rosprirodnadzor, Rospotrebnadzor), heads of working groups of the Coordinating Council, representatives of industrial enterprises, public organizations and experts. Representatives of the UNIDO Centre in the Russian Federation also took part in the online event.

The results of the implementation of environmental measures to improve the quality of the environment in the region were discussed.

Opening the meeting, Mr. Teksler emphasized the role of the Coordinating Council, which was created as an open platform for discussing and consolidating opinions on a range of environmental issues in the Chelyabinsk region.

The head of the region noted that certain results have been achieved. Thus, Ms. Victoria Abramchenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation, speaking about the status of the Clean Air project named Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk among the cities that showed the highest reduction in air emissions. Mr. Aleksey Teksler stressed, that Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk should achieve the indicators of a clean city by 2024.

The Chelyabinsk region is the only region in the country that implements an atmospheric air monitoring system. Together with SUSU, the environmental monitoring software package is being improved.

The region initiated an experiment on quotas for pollutant emissions. Preparatory work is underway. Implementation is scheduled for 2022. As part of the implementation of the environmental standard, eco-agreements have also been concluded with industrial enterprises (including measures to reduce emissions into the atmospheric air, water, and landscaping).
